Sunday Cycling Sub Zero!

Despite the over night ice, we set off as planned yesterday and were really pleased; the peleton was 9 of us. As expected, the conditions meant we stuck largely to the main roads so travelled to Wigton.  The ride was a 4 hour one, so at Wigton we headed to Bothel and the fast flat ride we had hoped for turned into a bit of a pull from Keswick up.

Andy who shall now be known as 'the bonk master' took the lead group as we split in to two for the last third of the ride. True to form, he had a few of the lads hanging on in there for survival, good enough too! Phil and myself opted to stick to the lower end of our heart rate zones due of course to the cold air and icy roads, not fatigue of the 10 mile run we did the night before!  Our group was very civilised as we managed to take some photos, enjoy a brief gel stop but much to Dougie's dismay, didn't have time for a brew stop in Dodd Wood!  Not until this Ironman programme is over at least, after that I can see this Sunday ride becoming much more social.

The only dodgy patch was the back road to Motherby as sheet ice covered some of the road in stretches.  All went well though and we arrived back to the shop ahead of schedule and ready for the run.

Happy Days!
