We are all absolutely over the moon to announce that our friend, fellow Tri Club Founder & local legend Stuart Robinson has been crowned World Champion in the Abu Dhabi World Triathlon Championships - age group 60-64.
Stuart is no stranger to the podium. In fact, over the years we have come to expect that of him he is such a consistent, hard working athlete; but this is the big one! We could tell he was meaning business not just because of his strict training schedule, but also the ingenious way he set about gaining strength in the heat... anyone who swims at Appleby may have spied Stuart burning up on his turbo trainer on the poolside. He has attributed that acclimitasation as a real key to his success on the day.
Stuart travelled on his own with Val staying home to monitor his progress via the tracker. He admitted that we all knew back home before he'd confirmation after crossing the line - mainly because Val wasn't there to confirm to him at the finish. So while we were in Penrith bursting with pride for him, Stuart who didn't have his phone, had the agonizing wait for official confirmation.
We've asked him what's next because anyone who knows Stuart will know there will be plans afoot... but he's keeping that card close to his chest at the moment! We think he'll come to Barcelona with #TeamArragons to help a team in the 70.3 relay.... well, that's what we're hoping!
Well Done Stuart - an achievement that's thoroughly deserved and couldn't happen to a nicer bloke!
